How to Create a Printable Quote for Halloween

|

Good morning my friends, I just love the use of typography  for vignettes, especially around the holidays.  This year as I was planning my Witches Tea Party decor, my inspiration was from a quote by  Maugham.

“A woman can be as wicked as she likes, but if she is isn’t pretty it won’t do her much good.”

Of course, I had to create something with the quote for my party and I wanted to share a tutorial on how you can create one for yourself!  (Or if you would rather just use mine, just scroll down to the bottom of the post.)

Here is how to create a printable quote using Picmonkey photo editor.

I use this program for everything, it is very user-friendly.

1.  Decide on what quote you would like to use.  Here are some great Halloween ones.

Shakespeare’s  Macbeth

“Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble.”

William Motherwell

“Men say that in this midnight hour,
The disembodied have power
To wander as it liketh them,
By wizard oak and fairy stream”

Arthur Cleveland Coxe

‘Tis the night – the night
Of the grave’s delight,
And the warlocks are at their play;
Ye think that without
The wild winds shout,
But no, it is they – it is they.”

2.  Time to create! Open up picmonkey by clicking here. Click on create a collage.

 3. Enter the size at the bottom of the screen.  For an 8×10 image, use 768 x 960 pixels.   If you want a different size, use an inches to pixels converter (you can find one here).   You will have to hit the lock button to disable ‘maintain proportions’.

4. Close out two of the cells by clicking on the x(s).

5. Now, on the left panel, click on the artist palate and choose a color for your background.

 6.  You are ready to add your quote and embellishments (overlays). Click edit at the top of your background. The left panel now holds all of your editing tools. Add an overlay by clicking on the butterfly, select the overlay, and drag it over.  You can then change the color and its size.  I like the tree branch under sprigs and twigs but look around, there are a lot of neat things for Halloween.

7. Add your text. If you want to use multiple fonts.  I suggest creating a separate text box for each font so that you can move and size them as often as you want.

Save your work! I had my printed at CVS around the corner with a coupon I found online, so my print was under $3.

Finally,  frame your quote. I used a white frame that was already in use but will put the original image back in after Halloween.
