Be Your Own Designer

Greetings! My husband left yesterday for a long business trip so that means Spring cleaning, organizing, and lots of romantic comedies. 🙂 I told my son the decorating bug was visiting his room while he’s at school this week and he said “finally!”  (Now I have to pull through!)

Be Your Own Designer

Are you the kind of person that puts all their oranges in one basket? Boy, I sure am.   I made a new discovery recently and have been spending too much  time on it.  It’s called Olioboard my friends.  You must check it out.  It’s similar to Polyvore but  only focuses on interior design and decor.  All you have to do is create an account and starting designing a space.  There are many beautiful empty rooms to start with and decor and furnishings from many of my favorite online sources. I would love to have you follow me and I will gladly follow you back! We can have our own little decorating club. 🙂 You can find my profile here.

So I mentioned all of my oranges are in one basket?  I kind of went crazy designing spaces the other night and wanted to share them with you!

First I created an eclectic living room.

Imagine this next space belonging to an art collector living in a big city.  That cat cracks me up.

The dark paneling around the fireplace in this living room is stunning against  the crisp white molding and tres ceiling. Very chic!

I might have just designed our next master bedroom! Can you tell which side is his and which is hers?

Here is a little foyer.  I have been helping a friend with hers and thought about her space while I was throwing this together.  Mirror to check hair and teeth, a little tray to throw keys in, a big basket for everything else, and a coat rack. Perfect foyer accessories. 😉 One day, I shall have a foyer of my very own… *sigh*

My true love of color comes out in this dining room.  Doesn’t this space make you feel cheerful?

Fun, fun, fun.  I could see myself living in any of those spaces (expect maybe for the cat print over the couch!).

Here are some quick tips to be your own designer!

Pick a room or patterned background.  (There are wall paper options!)

Choose the main furniture for that space. Don’t be afraid to mix wood tones and finishes.

Fill in your “negative space” with accent furniture, plants, or leave it empty.   Keep the bigger pieces neutral.

Add lighting, rugs, and accessories.  Try to keep the design to three main colors.

Have fun designing! signature
