St Patrick’s Day Home Decor Ideas

“Less is more” is usually my decorating philosophy during the holidays especially now that we are living overseas and were only allowed a limited amount of household goods.

We are a military family stationed in beautiful Okinawa, Japan, and live off base in a two-story bright home right off the Pacific ocean.

As I mentioned, we could only bring a small number of household items so I’ve been on the hunt for second-hand furniture and inexpensive decor which is different in Japan as the furniture sizes are smaller. Luckily I’ve found a lot of items from other military families and the base gift shops.

I enjoy shopping the house for decor in appropriate colors (green, gold, and black and white) which usually give me ideas for quick DIYs to add something new.

St Patrick’s Day Mantel Decor

The first little vignette I created for this home tour is on the foyer faux fireplace.  A few stacked books in green hues, DIY gold leaf shamrock art, and DIY black and gold art was an effortless way to add a little pop of green for the upcoming holiday.  The white fireplace surround came from a base gift shop for $100. A bit of a splurge but I love having it.

I had an empty gold frame so I simply used gold decorative tape on black card stock and found an unused mat for a seamless fit.

The rest of my green decor is spread around the living room to keep the eye moving.  There’s not a whole lot of green in my house so I knew putting all of it in one room would make a bigger impact.

St Patricks Day Living Room Decor

I did find a fantastic floral pillow at Home Goods while I was in Texas and snagged two more pillow covers at a local Japanese store last weekend for the matching pair of barrel back club chairs.

The chairs were actually from a Japanese thrift store but I have a feeling they were brought there from another American family since they are a “normal” size for us.

I brought our mattresses and sofa from the states along with smaller decor items and I’m so glad I did! I was able to quickly sell items we couldn’t use like our American drapes and huge vacuum to families living on-base housing.

Anywho, back to our St Patrick‘s Day home decor. Along with the different shades of green, are pops of purple and pink.  It’s really refreshing after having mostly neutral winter decor

Floral, Green, and a Pop of Black and White

A shamrock shape cut out from gold tape is an easy way to add St Patrick’s Day decor quickly.  Just put it on a pot or vase.

I found a whole bunch of “dollar store” succulents and plants and have been collecting as many different types as I can. They are so cute and look real!

Adding black and white, black, and pops of copper have been this year’s theme for the season.

An easy idea for st patrick's day clover decor is to cut out a gold clover out of tape and add it to a vase or little planter like this cute succulent on a stack of black books with a copper lamp.

The sofa table even showcases green, black, and white with a throw blanket and decorative books. The large Moravian star is left over from Christmas decor but I love how it looks like a table lamp. It has the prettiest glow in the evening.

Bright flowers, aqua candlesticks, and other pops of green and black and white keep the color palette moving to the coffee table.

Can you believe those beautiful orchids are from the grocery store just up the street and were under $5? It’s such a neat experience to live on a sub-tropical island.

Cute St Patricks Day coffee table decor on two large white acrylic trays include a pair of mint green candle sticks, green vase with purple orchids, a green glass bottle with a gold horseshoe, and green felt coasters on a stack of books.

Easy decor tip:  Don’t let taper candle holders hold you back from using pillar candles or tea lights!

Another DIY I created for this year’s St Patrick’s Day is a DIY clay gold horseshoe.  A super fun way to add a bit of luck!  It’s super easy to do with polymer clay but I bet a homemade dough recipe would work too.

I recently found an awesome large candle lantern and finally put it to use as a plant terrarium decorated with a butterfly fan.  I mixed faux and real plants to make an easy arrangement.

Another quick update was to wrap white candles with black electrical tape to create black and white stripes. It was super easy and they look like I bought them that way. I grouped them with a peach buddha head on a green plate. I love creating layers no matter how weird it is. It’s good to have weird decor!
