Waterside Home Tour

|

Hi friends!  I’m really excited to be a part of this unique home tour featuring beautiful waterside homes organized by the lovely Emily from Table and Hearth.

The Waterside Home Tours started Monday so make sure to scroll down to see all of the homes participating. If you are new here or stopping by from Migonis Home tour,  welcome or Konichiwa!  We are a military family stationed on the beautiful island of Okinawa, Japan.

Let me introduce you to our little neighborhood and beach (just a few blocks away!).

The houses aren’t much to look at on the outside because most of the them are built from concrete to withstand the strong typhoons that hit our little island.  I still find something about the neighborhood streets that feel rustic and pretty though.

Here’s where our “American” house is.   Our cul de sac features pretty in pink.  😉neighborhood.jpg

The inside of our rental consists of mostly white materials.  White floors, light walls, white kitchen, and lots of windows for natural light!

Let’s step into the foyer.  Don’t forget to take your shoes off!  It’s island time, Japanese style.

I’ve had so much fun incorporating beach finds into DIY decor and vignettes.  My decorating style is eclectic but it always reflects local natural finds like this beautiful piece of Okinawan pine wood that I made into a sofa table.

I’m always looking for new ways to use all of my seashells, coral, and sea glass.   One of the easiest is this “specimen exhibit” on a moroccan tiled tray.

I’ve also displayed them in a larger seashell (that we found on our beach, it’s the best!)…

and have made quite a few DIYs with them like this Coral Bookend.

Often my styling inspiration comes from seaside colors and textures.

Sometimes it’s just yard clippings, local plants, and furniture that give our house a China Sea feel as reflected in our Japanese styled bathrooms.UpToDateInteriors-1-of-24-e1430215055122

Our living room has a few beach finds here and there but also a lot of island decor and furniture from local thrift stores.eclectic interiors summer home tour eclectic interiors summer home tour eclectic interiors summer home tour eclectic interiors summer home tour eclectic interiors summer home tour

We absolutely love it here and spend most of our free time snorkeling, exploring castle ruins, and eating lots of Okinawan dishes!   Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Make sure to check out my summer page full of DIYs, decorating tips, and printables for the season.

Now let’s go and enjoy the rest of the beautiful Waterside Home Tours !
