Try something new this Fall with a causal Japanese-inspired Asian table setting and a beautiful floral centerpiece.
Hi there! Welcome to the Autumn Tablescape and Blog Hop hosted by Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate! If you are coming from Starfish Cottage, I’m so happy to have you. We are in a Japanese rental in Okinawa (at least for two more weeks) so I decided to set an Eclectic Japanese table for Autumn. When in Rome, right?
Asian Tablescape with Japanese Table Setting Ideas
Our rental kitchen is very small and we’ve enjoyed all our meals around a little four-seater table that we snagged for free on Bookoo. I used my Fall “Faux Real” centerpiece as a starting point and added in Okinawan tableware my husband and I collected the past 18 months we’ve been here. Here’s our Autumn table with an eclectic mix and Asian flare.
Each table setting includes a DIY painted charger, IKEA plate, metallic cloth napkin, bamboo plate, chopstick set, and famous Okinawan Ryukyu blown glass.
We have blown glasses in many colors. I’m in love with the purple ones and they compliment the flowers.
A Japanese table wouldn’t be complete without a sake set! (Although I’ll pass. ;)) I included a few metallic pumpkins I found at our USMC Officer Wives gift shop.
Have you heard of Goya, the bitter melon? It’s said to give longevity to the Okinawans and the reason why they are some of the longest living people in the world. Well, there’s a special dish here called champuru that is a stir fry of vegetables including goya. It’s pretty good (although the goya itself is an acquired taste!) but I found a tasty alternative with fruit champuru. The fruit and fruit products out here are amazing! I mixed it with nuts for our Fall table.

Kathy, I love how you’ve incorporated Japanese flair into your tablescape! It is so clean, fresh, and a bit of masculine/feminine yin-yang going on, which I am always inspired by. You did such a wonderful job combining seasonal Fall decor with Asian elements. So unique but yet so familiar. I would love to get the opportunity to try the Goya fruit (and other foods as well). The contrast of bamboo with the metallic look of the sake set brings so much more interest to the table. What a wonderful experience and a way to bring two cultures together.

Now this is an interesting tablescape! So great to see how one might decorate for fall in Japan and you’ve done it perfectly. Love the centerpiece with the flowers in the crate which speaks of a more North American vibe while the dishes and other elements look more Asian. Your skill at incorporating two cultures on a tabletop is exceptional. I really enjoyed my stop here!
