Try an Easy Asian Table Setting with a DIY Floral Centerpiece!
Try something new this Fall with a causal Japanese-inspired Asian table setting and a beautiful floral centerpiece.
Hi there! Welcome to the Autumn Tablescape and Blog Hop hosted by Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate! If you are coming from Starfish Cottage, I’m so happy to have you. We are in a Japanese rental in Okinawa (at least for two more weeks) so I decided to set an Eclectic Japanese table for Autumn. When in Rome, right?
Asian Tablescape with Japanese Table Setting Ideas
Our rental kitchen is very small and we’ve enjoyed all our meals around a little four-seater table that we snagged for free on Bookoo. I used my Fall “Faux Real” centerpiece as a starting point and added in Okinawan tableware my husband and I collected the past 18 months we’ve been here. Here’s our Autumn table with an eclectic mix and Asian flare.
Each table setting includes a DIY painted charger, IKEA plate, metallic cloth napkin, bamboo plate, chopstick set, and famous Okinawan Ryukyu blown glass.
We have blown glasses in many colors. I’m in love with the purple ones and they compliment the flowers.
A Japanese table wouldn’t be complete without a sake set! (Although I’ll pass. ;)) I included a few metallic pumpkins I found at our USMC Officer Wives gift shop.
Have you heard of Goya, the bitter melon? It’s said to give longevity to the Okinawans and the reason why they are some of the longest living people in the world. Well, there’s a special dish here called champuru that is a stir fry of vegetables including goya. It’s pretty good (although the goya itself is an acquired taste!) but I found a tasty alternative with fruit champuru. The fruit and fruit products out here are amazing! I mixed it with nuts for our Fall table.
A pretty Fall colored table runner completes the table! Make sure to check out 50 + Fall seasonal and holiday decorating ideas, DIYs, and free printables for the season.

Your ‘faux real’ centerpiece is perfect with your runner and Japanese-inspired table! (I popped over to see your tutorial!) Your metallic pumpkin has the perfect Asian flair. I’ll pass on the sake too 🙂
lol, Thanks Mary! I didn’t think about the pumpkin having an Asian flair but now that you mention it, it does. Especially the shape of the wood stem. Good eye!
What a beautiful table you have set, I love the Asian flair! I love the bamboo mixed with the metallic….so much interest on this lovely table, Wishing you a wonderful week! Pam @ Everyday Living
Thank you so much Pam! I’ve been enjoying using local pieces with my own.

Oh Kathy, what a creative tablescape you set with your Japanese Inspired design. Those black and gold dinner plates are stunning, and combined with your little black and gold mini pumpkins are the perfect touch of Fall! My daughter and son in law are a military family, so I understand first hand the challenges of recreating your space every couple of years! Thank you so much for being a part of the Autumn Tablescape Blog Hop!
Thank you so much Chloe! You did such an amazing job organizing and hosting. xoxo
What a fun fall table! I love the chopsticks and tablesetting. Thanks so much for sharing today!!
Thank you Kristy!!
Your table is so pretty. Love those dishes and the colors are fantastic.
Thanks BonBon. I keep adding in more pink and b&w into my spaces and I LOVE it.
Kathy, a lovely tablescape from Okinawa. I really have enjoyed seeing your table with the Autumn touches. I give you kudos for creating a lovely tablescape in your rental space. Lots of fun for you to be able to collect unique dishware. happy Autumn.
Thanks Linda! Rental living can be a challenge but I love it out here!
When in Rome…I love it!! Your table is beautiful, the colors are fabulous and it definitely says fall to me!
lol Thanks Kim!
What a lovely and very creative Autumn tablescape! Those little pumpkins are so cute! Blessings to you!
Thank you Sheila! Those pumpkins were a last minute find but I really like the shape and metallic. 🙂
Kathy, I love how you’ve incorporated Japanese flair into your tablescape! It is so clean, fresh, and a bit of masculine/feminine yin-yang going on, which I am always inspired by. We have a bit of Asian touches in our home’s traditional decor, and I’ve collected a few things that I enjoy. This is really a great tablescape. Happy trails to you & your husband as he moves in his career. I’ll be following, having added you on G+. 🙂

Thank you so much Rita! I apologize for the late reply, we are currently in a middle of a military move but I’m super excited to move into a traditional Japanese home on mainland Japan. Now, I really will have to embrace Japanese culture and design! Thanks for the G+ add. xoxo
I agree Kathy – when in Rome, go for it and you did a great job! Love the charger plates. I have been wanting to paint some so thank you for sharing your DIY post! Thank you too for your family serving our country!
Thank you Elaine! I was apprehensive painting the chargers but so glad I did. 😉
You did such a wonderful job combining seasonal Fall decor with Asian elements. So unique but yet so familiar. I would love to get the opportunity to try the Goya fruit (and other foods as well). The contrast of bamboo with the metallic look of the sake set brings so much more interest to the table. What a wonderful experience and a way to bring two cultures together.
Thank you for the kind words Marsha! The goya is very bitter but there are different varieties and the locals really enjoy it. I like it cooked with other veggies. 🙂
Now this is an interesting tablescape! So great to see how one might decorate for fall in Japan and you’ve done it perfectly. Love the centerpiece with the flowers in the crate which speaks of a more North American vibe while the dishes and other elements look more Asian. Your skill at incorporating two cultures on a tabletop is exceptional. I really enjoyed my stop here!
Thank you so much for the kind words Lori! Hope I can pull off the two styles for Christmas. 😉 xoxo
You’ve certainly adapted to your surroundings well, and honored them with a beautiful and striking fall/Asian influenced tablescape! Lovely! ~Rhonda
Thank you Rhonda! xoxo
Kathy this is so great. I love the Japanese inspiration here! I love to come check out your posts and I am fascinated by the culture you effortlessly add to your decor. What a fresh take on a fall tablescape.
Wow, thanks so much sweetie!! That means so much to me. It’s always a bit of a challenge living in a foreign country but so worth it!
I love how unique your table is! The Asian flair is inspiring and creative. I have saved lots of ideas for my own table from this post. The purple and green glassware with the bright floral centerpiece is so very pretty!
Aw! That’s so kind Kim! I had fun mixing in more colors this year.
Kathy, you did a great job of embracing your setting and the culture of Japan. Incorporating the pumpkins with the sake set is ingenious. Just shows that a Thankgiving table does not have to be orange to be seasonal and festive. Happy to be with you on the tablescape blog hop.
Thanks Carol! I’ve really enjoyed being here and look forward to more holidays with multi-cultural style. xoxo
Such a fun and unique tablescape – I love the Asian influences! It’s like be transported to Okinawa right along with you!

What a treat that you have shared a tablescape inspired by Okinawa! I love the place settings, with the black and white contrast! And the chop sticks! What fun! The pop of pink in the flowers is just the right pop of colour!
Thank you Maureen! I’ve been meaning to include chopsticks into a tablescape since we use them everyday and am glad I finally went for it. lol

Thank you for the kind words Jennifer.
So so pretty Kathy! I just adore how you use the cultural influences of your surroundings into your style.
Thank you Steph! I’m enjoying it too although I’ve never used Asian style before, it’s fun to try to make it fit into my style. 😉
