Inspired by DIY: Serena and Lily

Wow, it feels so good to be doing DIY projects again!!  We managed to unpack our entire house and put up the Christmas tree in two days so we could enjoy a relaxing Thanksgiving.  Then it was back to work with some fun winter projects that I can’t wait to share with you soon.

Today is another Inspired by DIY challenge hosted by the lovely Jess from Domicile 37.  This time a couple of my friends and I are featuring projects influenced by Serena and Lily.

I decided to create something for my daughter’s bedroom and was drawn to a candy stripe coverlet I knew I could recreate for just a few dollars!

How to create a candy stripe coverlet:

Turn your sheet upside down, so the top part is now the bottom.  That way your finished project won’t look like a sheet!

(You may want to remove the tag.)

Step one:  The pom pom or tassel garland goes on the right, left, and top side (the bottom) of the sheet.   Attach it to the underside of the sheet with fusibe tape working in 12 inch sections on your ironing board.Attach pom pom trim with iron on fusible tape

Step two:  Next attach ribbon to the topside of your sheet only on the right and left sides. Attach strawberry ribbon to your candy stripe coverlet with iron on fusible tape.

*add a little hand-stitch or clear fingernail polish to the ends of your ribbon to prevent frayingEasy DIY Candy Striped Coverlet inspired by Serena and Lily

That’s it!!

I’ll be sharing our Christmas home tour with you soon but for now, here’s a sneak peek of one of three tatami rooms in our house.  This one is our daughter’s and has beautiful shoji screen doors.  So traditional Japanese unlike our previous Japanese rental!   Easy DIY Candy Striped Coverlet inspired by Serena and LilyEasy DIY Candy Striped Coverlet inspired by Serena and Lily
