Bathroom Tour {Japanese Style}

The day is finally here.  Our first complete room tour in our new Okinawan rental.  Thanks to my sweet neighbor and her amazing photography skills, here is our Bathroom Tour.

First, let me remind you of what the inspiration board looked like! c600x7179

It’s divided into two rooms.  The first part has an entrance from the hallway and the master bath.

UpToDateInteriors (7 of 24)It’s so interesting living in a new country and getting used to a new way of living.  Our house was built mostly in a western style but you can see elements of Japanese style and of course a lot of Japanese writing!

UpToDateInteriors (8 of 24)Using horse fat and oil in their beauty products are common here.

UpToDateInteriors (9 of 24)Since we are in a rental, feather decals was a perfect way to add a little wall art.  You can read more about how I’ve been decorating our walls without making holes here and here.

UpToDateInteriors (17 of 24)The second part of the bathroom houses the toilet, bathtub, and a hose. Yep.  Apparently it’s common to hose down the entire bathroom to clean it.

UpToDateInteriors (20 of 24)Baths in Japan are for soaking and relaxing, not cleaning.  Bathers are to clean off in a shower or faucet before they get into a bathtub.  Japanese believe that the water purifies the body.

A major eyesore in this space was the storage unit on the wall.  I gave it more of a spa feeling with succulents, towels, facial peels, and a loofa!

It’s a wonderful space filled with so much natural sunlight.  My plants love it in there and so do we!

  1. This is such a lovely room! It’s cool to see how bathrooms differ in other countries (I can’t really get over the hose though, LOL). You’ve added lots of touches that really complement the room and give it style. The photography is great as well!

  2. Love all of your beautiful touches to the spaces, they really create a relaxing area. Looking forward to seeing your decor in other rooms!
