Add a pop of color to your door with a Spring butterfly wreath made with paper butterflies in three easy steps! Perfect for eclectic Spring decor.
Hi there! I’m so glad you stopped by. I’ve got warm breezes and sunshine on the brain and have the perfect DIY to brighten up your front door. If you have a printer and an extra grapevine wreath form laying around you can make this butterfly wreath right now!
DIY Butterfly Spring Wreath with Step by Step Instructions
Today I’m sharing how to create a pretty butterfly Spring wreath. This is the first year that I created a wreath with something other than flowers and I love the way it turned out. Very woodlandish and super easy. ๐
Materials for paper butterfly wreath:
- Butterfly printable – I found mine on What a Beautiful Mess and love the colors and variety of sizes. I printed out three sheets of butterflies on white card stock.
- Grapevine wreath form
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
How to put your paper butterfly wreath together:
- Print and cut out your butterflies and fold the wings together gently and open back up. This will create a more 3D realistic looking butterfly.
- Layout the largest butterflies evenly around the wreath and glue in place with a small dot of hot glue.
- Layout the medium-sized butterflies and glue in place. Fill in the rest of the wreath with the small butterflies.
It is really a show stopper. I hung it on our patio door on a wreath hanger that I wrapped in twine to give it more of a natural look.
This is a very fun and easy project to do while you are sitting on the couch watching your favorite show! Have you made any Spring wreaths yet this year?
Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

What a fun and whimsical project for your door! I love the way this wreath turned out AND the colors involved, Kathy! And I can definitely see it being adored by the young and old as they approach your door. What a fun project and what a great way to add a little color to your porch as spring is just getting started!
Kathy says
Thank you for those kind words Erin! It was amazingly easy and simple project but sometimes those turn out the best. It DID take awhile to cut out all of those butterflies. lol

That is so beautiful and whimsical. I love it and so would my daughter – she’s obsessed with butterflies.
Kathy says
Thank you! My kids are still cutting out butterflies (I printed extras for them!). ๐ The wreath is much different from my usual Spring flowers but I like it!

What weight card stock did you use for the best results? I am in love with this project !
aimee fauci says
that is amazing that those butterflies are made out of paper and your cutting is awesome.. I would probably cut off some wings!
Kathy says
lol, I did cut off a few heads and antennas to make the cutting easier. Did you check out the link to the free printable? It came from a scrapbooking blog. Super cute.
Christina says
This is so pretty, and different from a lot of other wreaths I’ve seen lately. Thank you for sharing.
Kathy says
Thanks so much Christina!! This is the first year I didn’t make a floral wreath, it’s a refreshing change. ๐

This wealth is just what I’ve been looking for, LOVE IT. And I have to say you are not alone on the Chai Tea addiction. I blame Costco for selling me unlimited 3 packs/boxes. I start to get worried when I am down to my last box because Costco is 45 minutes away. My new thing is adding a splash of Vanilla Milk. Yum.
Meg says
Wreath!
Kathy says
Didn’t even notice…;)
Kathy says
LOL, Vanilla Milk sounds delightful in Chai!! I just finished one about a hour ago… So glad you loved the wreath!

This is absolutely amazing! Butterflies are so magical and the color scheme is beautiful! I printed outlines and colored mine (to save ink and because I like coloring). It did take forever but was kind of a relaxing project while I watched Netflix ๐ Thanks for the idea!
Kathy says
That’s awesome! Just cutting took me a while. I can’t imagine coloring them too. lol

Totally going to try this. It looks like 2 different sizes of each kind of butterfly. To what size did you do the smaller ones?
