Make these easy modern nutcrackers for under $5. They are the perfect touch for your holiday decor and would also make a great stocking stuffer!
I’m still sick with a cold but we have made it to day 3 of Up to Date Interiors’ Christmas series. Woo hoo!! This one might be my favorite yet. (By the way, it’s a West Elm knock off!) So shop your dollar store, grab some paint, and let’s make these awesome modern DIY nutcrackers.
Day one: Updated Nativity Set
Day two: DIY Snow Wall
Day Three: DIY Modern Nutcrackers
Supplies for nutcrackers:
- Dollar Tree Nutcrackers – I found three different ones at the Dollar Tree
- Left over paint (you can use craft paint, spray paint, or house paint!)
How to transform dollar store nutcrackers into modern Christmas decor:
- Remove the hair and beards from the nutcrackers (they’ll just peel right off!). Wipe down with a damp cloth to make sure there isn’t any dust or dirt on them.
- Spray paint a few light coats on each side or use a brush and paint 2-3 coats letting each side dry completely before flipping over for the other side.
Let completely dry. Style them with other holiday decor for a cute Christmas vignette. I have mine next to a champagne tinsel tree adorned with a vintage garland and glass ornament balls.
Aren’t they adorable? I think they look just as great as last year’s West Elm nutcrackers! Not bad for $3. 🙂 Have you transformed any dollar store finds? Are you decorating for the holidays?

Dollar store crafts never cease to amaze me! Grouping three of them together gives them so much more impact. Good call.
Well thank you Jennifer! 😉 I think so too. “One is the loneliest number…” lol
I love how your nutcrackers turned out. Sweet, you gave me an idea. Thanks
Thanks!! Not bad for $3. Can’t wait to see your idea. 🙂
