Try this Easy DIY Seashell Wreath for Beautiful Decor!
Make a beautiful seashell wreath DIY to add coastal decor to your home with this easy tutorial and step by step instructions.
Greetings! If you are looking for how to decorate with seashells then I have just the post for you! I finally finished my latest DIY project with help from my kids and many walks on the beach. We absolutely love living close to the ocean and collecting all sorts of treasures.
DIY Seashell Wreath
We found lots of clam shells so I decided to turn them into clam shell decor with a homemade seashell wreath. It turned out so beautiful and could be hung for all seasons and just about anywhere. I think it would even make a stunning piece of coastal art in an eclectic wall gallery!
Grab your seashells and sort them by type. Create a chic coastal decor piece with all of the same type of shells like the clam shell wreath I’m sharing today or mix different type of shells up with drift wood and/or fishing floats to give it an eclectic mix!

WHERE TO BUY SEASHELLS AND SUPPLIES:
This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience to brands I love. You still pay the same price but I may earn a small commission.
I love the convenience of shopping online at Amazon and found that even the supplies I found at my local dollar store were the same price per item online. But you can also look at the Target dollar bins, dollar tree, and thrift stores for crafting supplies.
Materials for beach door wreath:
- Hot glue gun and a lot of glue sticks
- Styrofoam wreath form
- Seashells
- Ribbon
How to make a seashell wreath:
This DIY is super easy but a little time consuming. It takes about four times as much shells as pictured above to cover the entire wreath in shells so take your time or be ready with a lot of seashells!
You can also glue them to a twig wreath more sparingly or use a flat styrofoam wreath form and only glue shells to the front and sides if you don’t want to spend a lot of time on it or have fewer shells.
- Work in small sections gluing the shells all the way around the form overlapping as much as possible to cover the styrofoam. Be careful with a high heat glue gun and put the setting on low to avoid melting the styrofoam.
- Use small shells or pebbles to fill any remaining gaps.
- Remove glue strings!
- Tie a coastal style ribbon around the top of your wreath to hang.
The clam shells provide such an interesting texture. I would love to try another shell wreath DIY with a mix of shells for more depth and color and add sand dollars or a starfish or two! Another option would be to bleach all of your shells and hang it from black or black and white ribbon to give it a classic modern look.
Seashell home decor ideas are one of my favorite projects to try because they don’t cost a dime and they have such a chic look about them. Who doesn’t love beach themed wreaths when you live by the ocean or not?
I know DIYs aren’t for everyone or perhaps you don’t live close to the coast so here are some my favorite coastal beach wreaths I found online. You can also use these as inspiration for beach wreath ideas!

I love the seashells! I need to decorate my bathroom with some, but don’t live near the beach! It is so much more fun when you can collect them yourself. I will have to find someplace here that sells some. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Elizabeth! Wouldn’t a mirrored covered with seashells look stunning in a powder room? Ooo, I think you just gave me an idea!
Love it Kathy! I love all thing nautical. Side question- what kind of dog do you have? I have one that looks similar.
The SPCA told us she is lab and huskey but she is so little, I think there might be border collie in her. What do you have?
I am always in awe of how you get some many DIY projects done! Thank you for sharing ๐ The wreath really looks good!
Thanks Nancy!! We’ll see how it goes with the kids out of school for summer!!
Stopping by from That’s Fresh Friday link party. Thanks for the inspiration. My parents recently moved to Florida and when my children go to visit they spend hours collecting sea shells. My mom saves them all in buckets. Now I can pack my glue gun and “lots” of glue and make her a wreath. She will love it and mean so much to her. Thanks for sharing!
That is such a sweet idea! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. ๐
This is just absolutely gorgeous and funny how I just finished the nautical/coastal design article and this would go so well with that.
Beautiful and so easy to make.
