Crafting a Stunning DIY Succulent Vase on a Budget
I adore Kate Spade and Anthropologie decor pieces but not so much the price. When I found a black and white vase on sale at Joanne’s I knew I could turn it into something special.
The vase already reminded me of Kate’s iconic striped pieces but I loved seeing flowers and succulents right on the vase in stores like Anthropologie and Franc Franc (a store I used to frequent in Japan). So this fun DIY could turn any vase into a piece of art.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
What you need for a DIY Succulent Vase:
- A black and white vase from your local craft store like Joanne’s or Hobby Lobby. Don’t have one on hand? No worries, you can easily upcycle an empty wine bottle or other container into a unique DIY flower vase!
- An assortment of faux succulents is readily available at dollar stores, craft stores, or online retailers like Amazon.
- A trusty hot glue gun to keep everything in place.
- Don’t forget your wire cutters for trimming those succulent stems!
Step 2: Preparing Your Materials
Once you’ve gathered your materials, it’s time to prepare them for crafting. Use your wire cutters to trim the wires or stems close to the head of each succulent. This will make it easier to arrange them later on.
Step 3: Arrange Your Succulents
Now comes the fun part—arranging your succulents! Start by laying out 3-5 succulents in varying sizes and textures until you achieve a visually pleasing arrangement. Feel free to experiment with different combinations to find the perfect look for your vase.
Step 4: Secure the Succulents
Once you’ve found the perfect arrangement, it’s time to secure the succulents to your vase. Using your hot glue gun, carefully attach the central succulent about three-quarters up on your vase.
Then, continue adding succulents, maintaining an organic shape for your arrangement. Don’t worry about sticking to a perfect oval or circle—embrace the natural flow of the succulents for a more visually interesting design.
Step 5: Adjust and Refine
If you make a mistake or decide you want to change up the arrangement, don’t fret! Simply remove the succulent, peel off the hot glue, and reposition until you’re satisfied with the look. This project is all about creativity and experimentation, so don’t be afraid to play around until you find the perfect arrangement.
Step 6: Add Seasonal Flair
To give your succulent vase a seasonal flair, consider incorporating succulents in warmer tones like yellow and orange for a cozy Fall vibe. If you’re looking ahead to Spring or Summer, mix in some cheerful yellows and pinks for a fresh, vibrant look. Get creative with your color choices to reflect the changing seasons and add a personalized touch to your decor.
Step 7: Display and Enjoy
Once you’ve completed your DIY succulent vase, it’s time to put it on display and enjoy the fruits of your labor! Whether you place it on a mantel, shelf, or dining table, your stunning creation is sure to be a conversation starter and a focal point in any room.
It can be so easy to create designer-inspired pieces for the fraction of the cost with a little imagination. If you loved this succulent vase idea then you would probably enjoy my Kate Spade designer vase and Anthropologie-inspired DIY plant hangers.
