I have so much fun putting together tables. My latest was a Wicked inspired table that I shared last week. So today you’re getting the skinny of my favorite things to incorporate when I’m setting a table.
Antique dishes to display edible decor. Find unique treasures on your travels whether local or foreign are great for adding global flair.
Layer textiles for place settings, runners, and tablecloths. Don’t limit yourself to traditional table textiles but try layering scarves, blankets, curtain panels or doubling up on place mats and runners for more interest.
Add pops of color with glasses and stemware. Try shopping local thrift stores for favorite pieces. Also using more than one color or set is an easy way to create a global and eclectic esthetic .
Try something new at your next table. Incorporate something from a different country like a Japanese wine set or chopsticks for a fun get together in an unique global style.
Break up your dish set with bamboo salad plates or vintage dishes. I love starting with a plain white dish or my favorite china but then layering it with something unexpected.
Use gold flatware. Or rose gold, wood, patterned, acrylic… My gold bamboo flatware nods to chinoiserie and is my favorite thing to add to a table setting.
Items from your backyard or nature travels finds. Turn those seashells collected on a trip into place card holders or display stones, feathers, driftwood into your table.
Add greenery with faux or real succulents and plants. Create a collection of house plants for a centerpiece or use little potted plants on each table setting for feng shui and global prettiness.
I put together a shopping guide with some of the key pieces I showed you in my tablescapes today.
