One Room Challenge: Week 3

Hi friends.  Welcome back to the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home.   If you missed the first two weeks, you can find them HERE and HERE.

I’ve made some progress in my kitchen this week but it’s currently going through an ugly stage.  I’ll show you what I mean.

kitchen cabinets covered in contact paper

Last year, shortly after we had moved in, I covered our rental kitchen cabinets with contact paper and changed out the hardware with DIY copper pulls.  (You can read about that kitchen makeover HERE.)   In preparation for the ORC makeover, I started the removal of the contact paper and adhesive it left behind.  kitchen cabinets covered

The paper came off easily and didn’t damage the cabinets at all.  The adhesive took some elbow grease and rubbing alcohol but after a couple of hours, I finished the bottom cabinets. kitchen cabinet makeoverkitchen cabinets

The reason why I went through the trouble of removing my kitchen cabinets “faux wood” is because of this beauty. removable wallpaper

It’s the Clara removable wallpaper from Walls Need Love.  One of my wonderful sponsors.

Since I’m changing the cabinets, I’m also going to update the hardware from copper to gold. spray paint hardware

This week I plan on finishing the removal of the old contact paper, update the kitchen table set, and start on the swiss crosses.

A quick rundown of the ol’ to do list:

Spruce up seating with a pop of color

Remove old contact paper HALF WAY THERE!

Cover cabinet doors in a floral pattern – renter friendly

Update pulls to brass or gold

Hang new art

Add a new rug

Update tiles – renter friendly

Better organization of countertop space and cabinets

Maybe try something new with the window treatments?

  1. That new contact paper is going to look so pretty!! I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who changes up designs a year after I make them in the first place. 🙂 I already want to paint the kitchen cabinets we installed 2 years ago!
