Staying up to date with current trends in interior design means that I love reading decorating magazines. =) But really, who doesn’t? My current subscriptions include House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Elle Decor, Country Living, and the newest magazine, HGTV. So grab a glass of wine, sit back, and enjoy the trends of 2013. I am!! 😉
Color and Trends for 2013
First, the Pantone color of the year, emerald-green. Ah, the color itself is so rich. At the moment I don’t have of a lick of emerald-green in my home, Chartreuse? Yes! But alas, no emerald. If I had, I would pair the brilliant color with gold and white.
Just look at this chevron striped chest from designer Nick Olsen. Gorgeous, eh? I have two pieces of furniture that are screaming for a makeover, maybe one will get lucky!
If painting a piece of furniture is too much of a commitment for you, try using touches of emerald-green at your next dinner party.

Here is an example on how to use the Pantone color of the year in accents. Emerald green bottles, bowels, and glasses are easy to find in flea markets.
Here is a look into some other trends for 2013 (I will list my personal favorites).
Gold and polished brass are definitely a trend for this year. Thank goodness I have snagged a couple of brass items these last few years. I have always loved the warmth it brings to a room. Be careful to pair brass or gold with more modern pieces if you are using antiques or vintage finds to help balance the room unless you are striving for a “grandeur” style.
I also love the emphasis on art. I have mentioned before we have a nice little collection of paintings from my grandparents who collect early Texas art. My dear friend, Jamie, who is a professional photographer has also given us many of her pieces. With all of the fairs and festivals available in most cities, art is easily accessible to just about everyone.
