How to deal with a blogging slump!
I read a post from Bliss at Home yesterday that just brightened my day! Ever since we received the awesome news of moving to Okinawa I have been in a blogging slump. (If you are a blogger, you can probably relate.) It’s hard to think about projects and home decorating tips when {A.} I know we may have less than six months left here and {B.} When we move, we can only take about 30% of our belongings. (The remaining items will be in long term storage.) So I have decided to revisit my goals with Up to Date Interiors and focus on what I want to share with you on this next journey to inspire both of us.
First: Revisit or make new goals.
If you don’t have a blogging planner, you should! I have written out long term and short term goals that I revisit to make sure I’m on track. They have to do with overall site performance, engaging readers with social media, monetization (although I am more focused on creating great content for three years first!), and other ways to expand Up to Date Interiors.
By the way, after looking at my goals for the two year mark, I noticed that I had almost or had already exceeded my expectations. Awesome. There are a couple of areas that I need to spend more time on.
Second: Remember why you started blogging.
Like I said before, it is time for me to regroup. Up to Date Interiors’ goal has always been to “love your space!” The question I ask myself now is how can I make this happen with our current situation? Here are my thoughts…
Since a huge move is in our near future, I am under a few restrictions. There is no reason to make any more home purchases before we move unless it is an necessity for Okinawa Island living. ๐ Projects, makeovers, and updates will have to be done for pennies or less and will focus on things that we are taking with us (or keeping in storage).
This alone sparks my energy to tackle more projects, knowing that I have a plan.

Third: It’s okay to take a break.
Hey, that’s the great thing about having a blog. It’s summer, I’m spending more time with the kids and enjoying living close to the beach. I blog because I love to share my passions but if I need a day off, so be it. Don’t feel guilty about this!!
Fourth: Find inspiration.
Take time to engage with other bloggers that are in your niche, read magazines you enjoy, discover new things. A lot of times, I think of things after I have gone to bed. For this reason, I keep a notepad and pen by my bed or sometimes I just make a note in my phone. Write it down when you think of something so you don’t fall asleep and forget!!
I AWLAYS feel better after interacting with other bloggers. ๐

I hope these tips help you back on your feet if you are in rut! What do you do when you are feeling less than motivated to blog?
I go through spells of great creativity followed by “I’m tired of all this bloggy-work”. Thanks so much for the tips! Wishing you the best with your upcoming move.

Thank you for the sweet words Ashley! I’m always so much more motivated after talking to other bloggers. ๐
I recently went through a huge blogging slump. I just COULD NOT do anymore. I took a week off to get myself refocused. I didn’t look or think about my blog that whole week. It did wonders for my motivation!
That’s great Crystal! I do the same thing with practicing the piano and it does wonders for me too. Sometimes, I just need a glass of wine and a notepad and pen. Maybe I’m just too distracted with the kids home…. ๐
I am so excited for your move! Dana was telling me all about it ๐ Congrats!! And don’t worry about blogging, your blog groupies will be here no matter what ๐
Sweet Nancy! Thanks for the encouraging words. ๐
Great tips! I think taking a break is always my fav in the summer!!!!
Yes! It’s so nice to have a break!!
