I have a fun DIY for you today! A lovely group of bloggers and myself are starting a new series call Create and Share. This month we all bought the same item, a ceramic wall planter to makeover/repurpose. So much fun.
Wall Planter DIY Ideas
First, the item. White Petite Wall Mounted, Hanging or Freestanding Decorative Ceramic Flower Planter Vase Holder Display
I stared at it quite a while before I decided what to do with it. While I was sitting at my desk, I realized I could use more desktop space. I’m also still working on a gallery wall above my desk.
DIY Desk Accessory Holder
Supplies for DIY desk accessories holder:
- planter
- wood slice
- chalkboard paint
- copper wire
- wooden dowel
- copper spray paint
- copper hooks
How to assemble or makeover a plant into a wall hanging desk organizer:
- Prepare your wood slice by painting one side with chalk paint. After it dries completely, season it with chalk (wipe clean).
- Add a little embellishment to the planter with copper wire.
- Cut down the wooden dowel to fit the width of the wood slice. Spray paint the dowel (optional) copper or maybe a bright pop of color. Screw in hooks to hold dowel.
- Hammer in a nail at an angle to hold the planter in place. Attach a picture hanger or command strips on the backside to secure it to the wall.
Did you notice how I covered the fire extinguisher hook and sign? 😉 There’s a couple of more challenges on this wall. Of course one of them is that these walls are concrete so no nails.
Soon, I’ll have the rest of the gallery wall completed (with lots of command strips). For now I have more valuable desk top space. YAY!
Now it’s time to check out the other bloggers’ creativity!

Great use of the planter!! I love that you mounted it to a chalkboard wood slab. My favorite addition is the washi tape holder. You are filled with creativity! Thanks for taking part in the first Create and Share.
Thanks Stephanie!! Thanks so much for putting this together. It was so much fun!!
I love what you created with the vase! It looks great and what a great way to stay organized! I love how it’s off of the desk so you have more room!
Thanks Ruthie! I’m really enjoying the extra room. My blogging binder actually fits on the desk now with my laptop. lol
This turned out amazing! So simple, the little copper wire, but such a big impact! I love what you did with the tree slice. My daughter loves washi tape, I might steal this idea!
Thanks April! I love that copper wire. I’m also looking for something to add it too! lol
Beautiful idea, I really love it!
Thanks Roxanne!
This is so cute! I am loving this whole thing. It was hard to come up with something to do for the challenge, but everyone came up with great and unique ideas.
Thanks! It was so much fun to see what people did with the same object. They were all great!
I love everything about this! What a unique way to organize all your desk accessories!
Thanks Tara!
Great use of a simple object. Your project actually makes it look better!
That’s so sweet Lucy! Thanks. 🙂
Adorbs and beautifully done! Love the way you put it all together. WHERE did the “awake my soul” print come from?
Thanks so much Dawn. I actually won that gorgeous watercolor quote a while back. It’s from Mumford and Sons. They probably have a shop on Etsy… or maybe Minted?
