Hey there! Welcome to Day 3 of A Very Global Christmas. Casa Watkins Living and are so excited for this fun series. We have 12 days of holiday goodness sharing globally inspired Christmas decorating ideas and DIYs. Today I’m going to show you how to create beautiful modern nutcrackers from dollar tree figures.
Metallic Modern Nutcrackers
These cheap nutcrackers are so easy to find. If you’ve been around for a few years, you may remember that I gave them a quick update with blue, green, and white paint inspired by West Elm’s modern nutcrackers. Well this year I decided to make them more versatile with a metallic makeover and fun embellishment.

- dollar store nutcrackers
- wool balls
- copper spray paint
- gold spray paint
- white spray paint
- hot glue gun and glue
- pliers
How to make the modern nutcrackers:
This is a very simple DIY. Perfect to do with your family.
- Pull off the hair and beards. (Ouch!)
- Spray paint one gold, one white, and one copper. You will probably need 1-2 coats on each side.
- After the paint dries you can use them in your decor. If you want to add a fun embellishment, pull off the knob on the top of their heads with pliers.
- Place a dab of hot glue in the hole.
- And add a wool ball pompom.
With just a few simple steps you can go from cheap to chic!
Now they fit into any holiday decor.
