His and Hers – How to Style Different Bedside Tables
Yay! I’m finally sharing tips on how to decorate different bedside tables. I’ve had it written in my head for forever! Since we brought limited furniture with us, we scored a $30 desk out here in Okinawa for my husband to be doubled as a night stand. I repurposed one of my living sofa tables for my side of the bed. The challenge was that they were completely different colors, scales, and heights. Here are tips on how to overcome those styling challenges.
Tip 1: Even out the nightstands’ heights with symmetry.
Place a pair of lamps on the night tables or hang wall sconces at the same height on either side of the bed. If you are using matching lamps, even out the height with books underneath the lamp on the shortest nightstand.
You can also hang wall art at the same height to bring symmetry.
Tip 2: Balance out the scale with other furniture and room layout.
Since the larger piece is the dark desk on my husband’s side of the bed, my side was feeling very small and a bit lost. Placing a dark bookcase on the same side of the small night table helps the space appear more balanced. Now when you walk in, the two dark pieces frame the bed and small-white table and contributes to a cozier layout.
Tip 3: Keep the eye moving with similar accessories.
Using neutral decor pieces in the entire room will create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. I love using white accessories to contrast the dark furniture and adding small doses of color with plants, different textures, and b&w.
These tips can also help you harmonize a masculine and feminine style with two different or matching nightstands. Enjoy a relaxing and beautiful retreat at night!
