I’m sure all of us have that room that has given us a special set of problems. My office if roughly a 10 by 10 foot windowless room and I need it to be a bright multi-space room! I’m happy to say it is getting there especially with this week’s updates.
Home Office Paint Update
Here is the dark cave I’m working with. See!! I wasn’t exaggerating the space. 🙂
And after this week’s work. Definite progress!!
Yes that is natural light! I’ll tell you all about it later but I did have a Velux sun tunnel installed last week and it is literally like night and day.
The second big change is that colorful splash of color on the walls. My ten year daughter helped me paint and we had it done in under a hour. I also sanded the upper walls to prep for the wallpaper install.
I decided to nix the floating shelves in the design to save some money and use a thrifted eterge I picked up in Japan. It will be in the corner next to the French doors and couch to make a cozy reading nook.
I love that I’m adding an antique to the space. It will make the room more my eclectic aesthetic. The built in desk wall will have plenty of eye candy with the wallpaper, painted cabinets, wall hangings, and light fixtures! I can always add floating shelves later.
After our foundation piers get adjusted in a couple of days I’ll be able to finish trimming out the French doors, install cove moulding with decorative corners around the ceiling, and hang the beautiful Milton and King Woodland Birds wallpaper on all four walls above the chair rail.
The zebra rug from Mohawk Home came and I wanted to show it off. The graphic black and white animal print is perfect with the feminine wallpaper and will be a major factor in grounding the room. I always say rooms needs a bit of black and white! And this pretty rug happens to be really soft.
As soon as the wallpaper is up, I’ll be able to hang a gorgeous pair of light sconces from Sazerac Stitches in brass and pink. If you’ve been following my Instagram stories I’ve been sharing everything going into the space and you can find them under highlights’ labeled NYNRR.
The pulls from Liberty Hardware also came this week for the desk cabinets and I’m smitten.
Make sure to check out the full design plans here and everyone’s progress below. This makeover wouldn’t be possible without Velux Skylights and all of our amazing official sponsors for the challenge.

Wow! I love all the finishing pieces you’ve chose. They work together perfectly. Love that rug with the wallpaper. It’s such a cool combination. Can’t wait to see it all come together.
Thanks friend! xoxo
Kathy I’m living for that green! Love it and how great it looks with the wallpaper. I can’t wait to see those sconces in the office.
Thanks lady!
I’m so excited to see that wallpaper being used. It has always intrigued me. I’m also curious about the natural light. Can’t wait to learn more.
Thanks Jewel!
How exciting! Are you going to paint the french doors the same color as the walls or an accent color? I Love that the kids are getting involved!
Thanks Jason! Doors will stay white for now but that’s not a bad idea. 🙂
What is the name of the paint on the desk cabinet?
Hi Julia. I used Allure from Velvet Finishes on the built in desk. 🙂
