Modern Global Bedroom Decor
Greetings! Welcome to Inspired by DIY, a monthly challenge featuring iconic designers. This month’s spotlight is the charismatic, maximalist, and brilliant style of Iris Apfel. With her iconic black round glasses, layered chunky necklaces, she is the queen of mixing patterns and color and designer pieces with flea market finds.

I decided to use her fashion and interior style as inspiration for our bedroom. In fact, I shared the beginnings of it with My Home Style: Mix and Match last week. Decorating tip: Since we move frequently, I’m constantly changing decor from room to room but sometimes it doesn’t feel consistent. A quick coat of spray paint is a cheap and easy way to give decor a facelift!
I made a few changes by spray painting the basket on the left of the bed and the lamp base on the right to gold. They are much better friends now with the rest of the bedroom.
Here’s the before…And after. Isn’t is nice? I also created a focal point on the bed by hanging a Minted bird print with a “s” hook also spray painted gold to blend in.I’m totally digging our new grouping of pillows. I found the pink and orange pillow at the 3 coin store ($3 store). So cool! The white oblong pillow is from IKEA but I found the tribal fabric at a local import store and just wrapped it around the pillow and fastened.
The long basket on the left looked a little lonely ergo I tucked in a faux air plant and hung some Japanese brass bells.
I love this quote by Iris on style;
“Copying someone else’s style is not being stylish. Style implies attitude, mostly, and originality. And if you don’t have those two, well, you’re done.”
Style tip: Finding inspiration from unlikely places (or people!) is a great way to find original and unique style!
Of course, I couldn’t help but layer on some more necklaces on Daphne. I have tons of costume jewelry from my grandmother that are perfect.
The layered floral prints make me happy. Who would have thought they would look so great together? Nothing like inspiration from a fashion icon to get you to try something new!
“I don’t have any rules because I’d only be breaking them, so it’s a waste of time.” – Iris Apfel
Speaking of iconic people, the color palette in the room was inspired by Wes Anderson. Did you see the Inspired by DIY: Wes Anderson Color Block Bookcase?

That bed is the perfect backdrop for this post! It is gorgeous. You know I love your style and layering. I think that you have a very distinctive collected and airy style. Also, I would break my own rules too…if I had any! I love that quote.
