Updated Nativity Set
Up to Date Interiors’ Christmas Series starts off with a quick, easy, and cheap makeover. Transfer a Dollar Tree Nativity set into a modern vignette!
Greetings friends! I’m excited to share with you the first Christmas craft for this year. How to update a Dollar Tree nativity set!
DIY Modern Nativity Set for Under $10
This project starts off Up to Date Interiors’ Christmas Series. For the next few weeks you will be seeing a lot of handmade decor including DIY Christmas trees, DIY Christmas wreath, Holiday table setting, DIY ornaments, and to finish off the holiday season a Christmas Parade of Homes featuring Bloggers’ home tours. Are you ready?
Last week I did a little shopping for this week’s Christmas crafts. I found just what I needed at the Dollar Tree. Six piece nativity set for $6! Have you seen these at your local dollar store? A thrift store might be another great place to look for a discounted set to update.
(Find out how to update dollar store nutcrackers!)
All you have to do for this quick update is spray paint the nativity set figures with a few light coats of white paint. I used Rust-Oleum flat enamel in white. Make sure to let them dry completely but it won’t take very long.
I love how they look on my painted zig-zag tray. It’s nice to have them corralled together. You can see all of the details on the figures nicely!
It’s the first Christmas addition (of many other additions) to my bookcase. 😉 Have you started decorating for the holidays?

I love the update. Looks so pretty and yes I have started decorating for Christmas!
Thanks Julia!! I LOVE Christmas and it’s my (and my twin’s) birthday!!
What a fabulous idea! I inherited a hodge podge Nativity set that so doesn’t go together. I think this technique would work nicely to bring it all together!
Thanks Ashley!
Hi very cute, what kind of paint did you use.
