Hi there!  Welcome back to The Global Styler.  A monthly series featuring globally inspired home decorating ideas and DIYs.  Since Cinco De Mayo was last weekend, we decided to stick with the fiesta flow and share more Mexican style.  I turned a faux pear cactus into a colorful Mexican cactus with a simple DIY.  It turned out so cute that I might have to give more plants a facelift.

DIY Mexican Cactus Decor

The faux cactus came home a few months ago for my daughter’s global boho bedroom but I never intended for it to stay as is.  This was the perfect excuse to finally give it some attention.

Add global style to a faux plant!

• Faux plant (Cacti and succulents look really great!)
• Dollar store flowers

Tip: Look at pictures of the actual plant to see what kind of blossoms they have and try to find a close match.

• Wire/floral cutters
• Hot glue gun/sticks
• Paint and brush

Create a Mexican cactus decoration in 2 steps:

• Update the pot with a coat or two of blue paint.  Choose a deep hue that resembles Mexican Talavera pottery to add global style.  I knew my Velvet Finishes’ “Handsome” paint would be perfect for this.

• Trim pink blossoms off a faux flower stem and hot glue on the tops of the cactus and nestled in corners.

And there you go!  An easy cactus makeover for Mexican decor. 

Isn’t it a fun punch of color?  I decided to bring inside a garden stool for it to sit on after I carefully examined it for spiders. 😉
