Discover the perfect curtains for your green walls! From warm earthy tones to cool blues, find the ideal match for a stylish interior.
Hey there!
Green is my favorite color, and I’ve been decorating with it for years. It is one of the easiest colors to design a room with and the perfect blank canvas for your personal touch.
So, if you’re stuck on finding the right curtain colors for your green walls, don’t worry! We’ll chat about different types of green hues and what colors compliment them the best. I’ll also give you tips on solids and patterned curtains.
How to Choose Curtains for Green Walls
Curtains and other window treatments are fabulous for transforming a room immediately. They can make a room appear larger with taller ceilings or more cozy and intimate with layered textiles and interest.
Hanging curtains often takes care of the dilemma of having too much space on the walls and is the starting point of decorating walls.
Tips: Get the most height and width out of your curtains before hanging art!
Understanding Your Green Walls
First, decide if your green walls’ undertones are neutral, warm, or cool. If your green walls have hints of yellow, they lean towards warm; if they have hints of blue, they’re cooler, if you don’t see one more than the other, they are neutral.
So, what does this mean for curtain selection? Well, it’s all about creating harmony. If your green walls have warm undertones, consider curtains in earthy tones like taupe or beige to complement them. Try curtains in shades of blue or gray to keep things balanced for cooler greens.
Finding Curtains to Match Green Walls
In general, neutral colors like cream, white, taupe, and black work well with light and dark greens. Jewel tones, yellow, and blush pink to peach complement most greens beautifully. I always love pairing tone-on-tone (green on green) too.
There are so many options when adjusting tints (lighter), shades (darker), and warm and cool undertones. You can do a saturated green on a muted green, warm green on warm, and cool green on cool. Of course, neutral greens play nice with everyone.
Tone on tone delivers a polished sophisticated look. Don’t be afraid to select a shade dark or tint lighter than your wall color. This beautiful bedroom is from The Sweetest Beast Blog and the wall color is Behr’s Black Evergreen.
The paint color in this room is Farrow and Ball’s Bancha Green mixed in Benjamin Moore paint. Jewel from Jeweled Interiors had yellow piping sewn to her curtains to tie in decor elements found in the living room and adjacent dining room’s wallpaper.
One of my all-time favorite color combos is green and pink or peach. A true green and blush pink is romantic and can be soft or bold depending on the colors being more saturated or muted and dark or light. Just look how lovely and beautiful the living room from Melanie Jade Design is.
Curtains For Dark Green Walls
Choose warm or cool colors to match the undertones in your wall paint in dark shades for a moody interior. Consider dark grey or black curtains for dark green walls and a dramatic style or contrast the dark walls with white curtains for a clean and polished look.
Try finding an accent color in your existing decor for a trim or a pop of color with a pattern in your window treatments. Jewel tones; mustard yellow, peacock blue, ruby red, and emerald green will pop against the moody background.
Don’t you love how well the airy plaid light blue curtains with woven shades go in A Glass of Bovino’s nursery makeover? If pink and green is one of my favorite color pairings, green and blue is my absolute favorite color pairing. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Lehigh Green/Parsley Snips (a cool green).
You can’t go wrong with full white draperies for all-over green walls (and ceiling) as my friend Jess from Handmade Home did in her office makeover. Matching reading chairs were the perfect addition to this cozy reading nook. The wall color is Sherwin WIlliams Retreat.
Here’s a beautiful example of how to use black curtains in a room, especially with a wall color in a jewel green. This saturated green bedroom from A Vintage Splendor is the perfect balance of green and black. The black softens the gorgeous emerald while a woven headboard and wood furniture with bright art keep the room from being too heavy. The wall paint is Stone Bridge by Dunn Edwards.
And to show you an example of using jewel tones with a jeweled tone wall is my living room front window which is also my piano studio. I used colors in my room decor to tie into the green painted wall, Valspar Alpine Top, with beautiful velvet blue Anthropologie curtains with pink, red, and purple flowers.

Curtains For Light Green Walls
Choose softer curtain colors like cream, beige, or pale blue to complement the delicate nature of light green walls. These gentle tones create a sense of airiness and serenity in the space, perfect for creating a tranquil retreat.
Consider incorporating subtle patterns such as floral prints or textured fabrics to add dimension and warmth to the room.
A cheerful celery green accent wall with color bed linens is balanced with clean white window treatments from Craft My World. Notice the curtains are made from a heavier fabric and hung on a sturdy brass/gold rod.
When we first moved into our current home, a single-story ranch-style home in Fort Worth, the master bedroom had a pretty khaki green color on the walls. Using white sheers, a white dresser, and gold accents made the room look minimal and sophisticated.

A simple patterned curtain in white and grey adds interest but doesn’t overwhelm this casual and cozy bedroom from Elle and Jay. The paint is Sherwin Williams Green Earth. This is a darling example of cool colors with a cool green.
And one final light green room is my son’s bedroom with very light mint green walls. White curtains are on the windows but you can see how well dark blue, burgundy, or red colors for blue-green walls work.
Practical Tips for Choosing Between Solids and Patterns:
- Consider the overall style of your room when deciding between solid curtains and patterns. For a more traditional or formal space, solid curtains in a complementary color can create a classic and elegant look.
- If you prefer a more eclectic or contemporary style, don’t be afraid to experiment with bold patterns and vibrant colors. Just be sure to choose patterns that complement rather than compete with your green walls.
- Keep in mind the scale of the patterns relative to the size of your room. In smaller spaces, opt for smaller-scale patterns to avoid overwhelming the space, while larger rooms can accommodate larger-scale patterns for a more dramatic effect.
- Balance solid-colored furnishings and decor with patterned curtains, or vice versa, to create a cohesive and harmonious look throughout the room.
