Today we are sharing Easter egg ideas and I’m giddy how pretty and easy my botanical easter egg decorating idea was! Make sure to scroll down to catch a video on how to paint these gorgeous eggs.
My color inspiration for this year’s Easter series came from pretty candlesticks in moody colors. I painted similar colors on my DIY clay Easter eggs Monday and you saw a sneak peek of my Easter table yesterday when I shared a Black Rabbit place card napkin ring printable.
How to paint a botanical Easter egg:
- You can repurpose old plastic or craft eggs or use real eggs for this DIY.
- Start by priming your egg with a coat of black matte spray paint. Spray chalkboard paint is great for this and craft paint will adhere beautifully to it.
- Use green, yellow, and white craft paint and a little paint brush for your botanical print.
- Start by painting a “c” or a curved shape on your egg with green paint taking up most of one side. Add branches going from the “c” stem on one side, paint straight out with a light touch of your brush. The first ones should be small and gradually get longer and then a couple of smaller ones near the bottom of the stem. Repeat on the other side of the stem. Highlight your stem and leaves with the white and yellow paint to really make the leaf pop!
- Try a few practice ones and you’ll be able to control your brush easier. Also play around with how full or thin the leaf is.

The rest of the eggs that were primed with black chalkboard spray paint and painted similar colors to my candle stick colors. Aren’t they pretty with the palm leaf eggs?
