Greetings and welcome to our Christmas home tour! I have been enjoying a slower-than-normal holiday season as far as DIYs and blog posts go but I’m thrilled to be participating in Marty from a Stroll Through Life‘s annual Christmas home tour and blog hop.
A warm welcome if you came over from A Pretty Life in the Suburbs. Jo-anna is so creative and always has a beautifully decorated holiday home.
Color Scheme Ideas for Christmas Trees and Our Annual Home Tour
We are in the middle of changing furniture in a couple of rooms so I thought of approaching our home tour in a different way. I decorated four different trees this year and am sharing each one’s color palette and how I tied them all together.
I love using color stories and creating mood boards for interior decorating but this is the first Christmas I created color schemes to showcase our holiday decor. Color palettes are great for selecting the best color scheme for a Christmas tree to match your own decorating style!
The Living Room in Red, Pink, and Lime Green Color Palette
A fun twist on traditional red and green Christmas colors.
My goal was to use all of my Christmas decorations in a new way. I started by using floral stems from last year’s Christmas tree all over the tree instead of the “floral spiral garland” I created last year.
It was an easy start and a great way to make our tree look fuller. All of my DIY pomegranate ornaments made it back with large decorative green moss balls, woven wood balls, and Asian calligraphy ornaments.
The remaining ornaments are a mix of purple and pink and mercury glass. I decided to add a pop of lime green with pears at the last minute to all of the delicious berry tones.
The Anthropolgie curtain next to my grandmother’s portrait really stands out at Christmas time and helps tie in all of the warm colors together.
A Swedish angel Christmas bell chime that was more recently acquired sits on our marble tulip table with a picture of a very cousin, twin, and me. We all share Christmas birthdays!
A Vintage Christmas Color Palette
Bright reds, pinks, and greens evoke thoughts of sweets and candy.
Next to the front room and main Christmas tree is my bird-wallpapered office. You can see bright pops of red right away.
A friend gifted me a red tinsel tree after Christmas last year and I couldn’t wait to add it to the usual pops of holiday red this year.
I also recently was given this beautiful red antique sofa last month that came from the same estate sale that my office chair did and belonged to the Gentling brothers, a famous pair of Fort Worth twin artists. I can’t wait to hang a print of art up here!
I also added a $7 thrift store art for more red that turned out to be a special painting. The artist is well-known in LA.
Vintage Ornaments Mixed with Pink, Red, and Gold
Champagne and Pink Christmas Color Scheme
A subtle pallete of light pinks and metallics are elegant and joyful.
Back to the main living area is the family room. I decided on a softer Christmas color palette since the main tree is in the front corner and the office with pops of red is visible from everywhere.
The pink and gold ornaments on a champagne tinsel tree pull in the cherry blossoms from the large tree. This is the first time I’ve put the tinsel tree on the coffee table and it frames the stockings with silver bells beautifully.
Moody blue, green, and purple garland is similar to last year’s mantel but has been my favorite fireplace Christmas decor.
The blue and green taper candles in mint green candle holders seem a little odd until you see the green velvet sofa and large green and blue art in the background. I love spreading color stories (and Christmas cheer!) all around the room!
I found the perfect spot for a group of bottle brush trees this year too. Right in the corner of the living room. Don’t they look cute with the Japanese pottery collection?
Moody Blue and Green Christmas Color Scheme
Warm earth tones of brown, blue, and green give a peaceful and cozy vibe.
Heading down the hallway to the bedroom is one more pop of red with floral Christmas garland on the hallway mirror and two mini wreaths on the hot water closet doors.
A moody green and blue color palette for a bedroom Christmas tree was on my to-do list.
This year, I placed an evergreen tree decorated with blue, green, and white ball ornaments on a second-hand stool in front of the window with a fabric tree skirt. It’s framed by my DIY shibori curtains.
Pops of red with a handmade quilt, pillow, and Texas flag needlepoint is a nod to Americana and make the chic bedroom cozy for the holidays.
We had many duty stations on the coasts so I have quite a collection of seashells. I decided to add starfish and white pampas grass to the blue and green Christmas tree.
I didn’t have any plans for themed gift wrapping as I usually do. This year was all about ease and nothing beats ribbon around a Christmas tin!
A couple more Christmas touches in the bedroom. First, a nativity lamp that my grandmother gave me sits in front of an Italian art piece and a gold mirror.
And my husband’s nightstand showcases a cute Marine nutcracker and my favorite Marine Corps ball picture.
Do you ever consider Christmas color palettes when you decorate for the holidays?
